Kate Stewart, SNP Councillor for West Fife and Coastal Villages
I am a lifelong resident in the villages of West Fife, married to a local man Tam for 40 years. We have a son and daughter and are doting grandparents of 4.
I worked as a Community Education Worker for 29 years before being elected as Councillor in May 2012.
I am actively involved with a local Heritage Project and help co-ordinate another local Community Fused Glass Jewellery Project along with other Community events and committees.
About Ward 1
At present Ward 1, West Fife and Coastal Villages, of Fife Council consists of 14 villages: Blairhall, Cairneyhill, Carnock, Comrie, Culross, Gowkhall, High Valleyfield, Kincardine, Low Valleyfield, Newmills, Oakley, Saline, Steelend and Torryburn.
Ward 1 has a population of just over 16,001, and is presently served by 4 Councillors. Recent boundary changes have taken place and Crombie, Limekilns, Charlestown and Pattismuir are now aligned with Rosyth, reducing the number of Councillors to 3.
The rural geographical nature of Ward 1, presents difficulty in accessing services and has areas of deprivation.
High Valleyfield and Oakley North, feature in the top 10% of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. Low Valleyfield at 15%, with Oakley East and Comrie East in the top 20%.
The main issues are the need for more affordable & social housing, along with the difficulty of transport connecting the villages.

Valleyfield Community Club - National Lottery Community Fund Award
16th February 2019

We are very excited and pleased to announce that thanks to the National Lottery, we have been awarded a grant of £10,000 towards the cost of renewing our roof! This is a huge chunk towards the funds we need to carry out the work needed and will go a long way to help secure the Clubs future.

Thank you to all the members of the community who have supported the Valleyfield Community Club by signing the petitions, using the facilities and by being members.

Thank you to all the different clubs, associations and groups who use the club and promote our aims.

Thank you to all of the committee and staff who have done a fabulous job over the past year making sure that the Valleyfield Community Club is an integral part of the fabric of the community.

And finally, thank you to the National Lottery for believing in our little village community and our ability to pull together, work together and solve complex problems together. We still have a way to go so, let us keep working hard together as we are "Still Trying to Raise the Roof".

Fife Council and Talgo
11th January 2019

Full Council Meeting
Co-Leaders report - Fife Council, 13th December

Talgo choose Longannet

This is the best news to come to Fife in a long time. A potential thousand jobs plus direct and supply chain jobs will revitalise east central Scotland. The company will require orders to proceed and they will be submitting a bid for the HS2 contract which should be announced next year. However, there are other orders that may become available.

Cllr Kate Stewart question to SNP Co-Leader David Alexander
Can I welcome the announcement that should Talgo win the HS2 or other contracts that has the potential for 1000 jobs on the Longannet site.
Can the Co-Leader advise what assistance is being offered to ensure that as many Fifers as possible are supported, to ensure that we can offer potential staff with the correct skills and particularly for women to break into those engineering jobs where women are too often underrepresented.
I would also like to thank all who are working behind the scenes to bring this potential opportunity to West Fife, it is so much appreciated.

Co-Leader responded by saying this is a good news story, a bit still to go but hopefully it happens. Assurances were given that Council will support the potential workforce, particularly women.
